One of the biggest concerns among the world’s most powerful nations is how to handle the issue of Islam. We’ve had the displeasure of seeing multiple Islamic assaults across the globe, whether it was in Paris, Orlando, San Bernardino, Ottawa, or Boston. Unfortunately, this list doesn’t even come close to the number of attacks that have occurred in the last few years.
The next issue at hand is how to discuss the conflict between Islam and Western Civilization. This topic will always elicit emotional responses, especially in today’s society. While words like “xenophobic”, “Islamaphobic”, “racist” and “bigot” are hurled at anyone who dares to challenge Islamists, this subject is of utmost importance for national security. In order to have this conversation, we need to focus on the evidence at play and not allow emotions to get in the way.
Ben Shapiro said it best, “facts don’t care about your feelings.”
For this debate, our personal feelings must be put aside and we must acknowledge the facts as objectively as we can. No person, despite their agenda, can go back in time and change the past.
What is Sharia?
With all of the recent Islamic attacks around the world, the media has been using the term “sharia” more and more often. It’s important to have an understanding of the term. So what exactly does it mean?
Sharia Law is simply the regimentation of the vast material found in the Quran. This is different from other laws because it is enforces a comprehensible way of life.
Sharia was designed to be a broad system that included all aspects of life. The Reliance of the Traveller, an authoritative text, explains that “the source of legal rulings for all acts of those who are morally responsible is Allah.”
The quote is explaining that Allah is the sole ruler of the world. See the problem?
There is no separation between mosque and state under Sharia Law
This is the first of many examples where Sharia would not be compatible with the Western world. While Muhammad was a prophet, he was also a politician. Under Sharia, nothing is allowed to exist outside of its’ leadership.
Therefore, Islam couldn’t possibly work under the United States Constitution. A clause in the First Amendment states, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion.” This is in contrast with Sharia, which would approve the passing of laws that respected Islam and forced non-Muslims to abide by those laws.
Remember, “the source of legal rulings for all acts of those who are morally responsible is Allah.”
Men are superior to women
This is a common belief in the Islamic world. There are numerous examples within the Quran that call for and allow the degrading of women. Here are some examples:
- Q 4:34 states that men are allowed to beat their wives if they “fear disobedience”
- Q 2:282 states that the testimony of a woman is worth half as much as a man’s
- Q 4:11 and Q 4:176 states that a woman inherits half of what a male relative does
- Q 4:24 allows men to have female sex slaves
Historically, under Sharia, a man can divorce his wife by simply saying “you are divorced” three times in the presence of two other adult male Muslims. He does not need to justify the reason for divorce and if children are involved, he will retain custody.
Taking female captives in warfare has been a tactic used in Islam for centuries. It is not a new innovation created by ISIS, as some people think. Dr. Su’ad Salah, former dean of the Women’s College of Islamic and Arabic Studies at al-Azhar University, very explicitly states that taking female sex slaves is Islamically permissible in a war against Muslim enemies. She gives an example involving Israelis, stating that were Israel to fall, it would be permissible to take Israeli women as sex slaves in order to humiliate them.
Muslims are superior to non-Muslims
Christians and Jews are treated as second-class citizens in the Islamic world. It is taught that the blood of a Muslim is worth more than the blood of a non-Muslim.
There is also a great amount of hatred towards Christians and Jews written in the Quran. For example, Q 9:29 orders Muslims to fight Christians and Jews “until they pay the tribute willingly while they are humbled.” The very next verse (Q 9:30) makes it clear that this is because of their beliefs, and the verse ends with a call for Allah to destroy them.
This demonstrates the fact that Muslims do not value Christians and Jews as much as themselves. This is in complete contrast with one of the core values of America: everyone is created equal.
Insulting Islam is a punishable offense
Muhammad was thin-skinned and did not tolerate being insulted. To insult Muhammad was to insult the religion of Islam. He went as far as killing people who offended him, according to Sirat Rasool Allah.
A recent example of this occurred in 2011. The governor of Punjab, a province in Pakistan, was murdered for defending a Christian woman who allegedly violated Pakistan’s blasphemy laws. About 100,000 people rallied to support the governor’s killer, Malik Mumtaz Hussain Qadri, at his funeral. The son of the victim, Aatish Taseer, wrote a reflection in the New York Times.
This backwards thinking has been taking place for centuries in the Islamic world. Imagine what would happen to me, or anyone else critical of Islam, if we weren’t lucky enough to live in a country that valued freedom of speech.
The examples above prove that Islam is not compatible with the First Amendment, a major element in American life that is often taken for granted.
Jihad against the infidel is mandatory
The Quran is clear: combat is an obligation (Q 2:216).
Eternal war against non-Muslims is commanded by Islam. In this hadith, Muhammad seems to condone a total war on non-Muslims until they submit to Islam—and only then will their lives and property be spared:
I have been ordered to fight the people till [حتى] they say: ‘None has the right to be worshipped but Allah.’ And if they say so, pray like our prayers, face our Qibla and slaughter as we slaughter, then their blood and property will be sacred to us and we will not interfere with them except legally and their reckoning will be with Allah.
Another sahih hadith lays out a three-step process for combating infidels:
When you meet your enemies who are infidels, invite them to three courses of action. If they respond to any one of these, you also accept it and withhold yourself from doing them any harm. Invite them to (accept) Islam; if they respond to you, accept it from them and desist from fighting against them. Then invite them to migrate from their lands to the land of the Muhajireen and inform them that, if they do so, they shall have all the privileges and obligations of the Muhajireen. If they refuse to migrate, tell them that they will have the status of Bedouin Muslims and will be subjected to the Commands of Allah like other Muslims, but they will not get any share from the spoils of war or Fai’ except when they actually fight with the Muslims (against the disbelievers). If they refuse to accept Islam, demand from them the Jizya. If they agree to pay, accept it from them and hold off your hands. If they refuse to pay the tax, seek Allah’s help and fight them.
Jihad is rooted in the seventh century, which means that ISIS and Al-Qa’ida were not the first groups to use Islam as an excuse for war. Granted, these terror groups sometimes twist the words of the Quran to fit their narrative.
However, a poll showed that a majority of U.S. Muslims support Jihad and Sharia Law in the United States. They even supported violence against those that offend Muhammad and Islam in general.
From the points I’ve made above, it should be clear to anyone reading this that Sharia Law does not belong in any Western Civilization.
Places in Europe such as Germany, Sweden and France are all experiencing first-hand the dangers of allowing Islamists to take over. It’s time the people take their countries back and stand up to the radical left-wing governments that allow these violent invaders to run rampant in their cities.
There is a battle between the Islamic and Western world. With the election of Donald Trump, people are feeling less afraid to be critical of Islam. But it is important that these criticisms are coming from a place of evidence.
The West must say “No” to Islam.
